Named one of the world’s ten paradises by National Geographic Traveler, Kerala is famous, especially for its eco-tourism initiatives and beautiful backwaters. Kerala’s unique culture and traditions, coupled with its varied demography, have made Kerala one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. NIFAA established its Kerala branch in 2018 under a United Nations Youth Representative, Ms. Bincy Narakassery, and later, Shijin Varghese, a National Youth Awardee, was given responsiblity to work as state president. Since then, various programs have been conducted in Kerala, mainly the Samvedana International Blood Donation Programme, Go Green India Project, Covid Relief Work, and Seminar on Drug and Child Abuse. Under the Samvedana International Blood Donation Programme, the Kerala team of NIFAA took responsibility for the campaign’s success in the state. Blood donation camps were conducted in all 14 Districts of Kerala and collected almost 1000 units. The chairman, Pritpal Singh Pannu, and the state executive members visited the Honorable Governor of Kerala, Sri Arif Muhammad Khan. He appreciated the campaign and assured them he would fully support this program. Go Green India was another NIFAA project to plant 20 Lakh Saplings in India. The Kerala team participated effectively as a part of the project. The District Collector of Alappuzha District, Sri Alexander, IAS, officially inaugurated the campaign by planting Saplings. The NIFAA team planted more than a thousand saplings in Kerala, and the volunteers protected these. As we all know, the first COVID-19 case in India was reported in the Pathanamthitta District of Kerala. Proudly saying that the first volunteer to start COVID volunteering work in India was our State working president, Mr Shijin Varghese, and the Pathanamthitta district team members. Our team helped in programs like transit screening, public bus sterilization programs, school sterilization programs, food kit distribution for quarantined people, medicine distribution to quarantined people, government call centres, etc. Kerala team participated in the Speak Up Friends campaign conducted by Paramvir Singh. Eight children from Kerala participated in this world’s longest webinar against Drugs and Child Abuse. All eight received a World Book of Records certificate, and the Honourable District Collector Pathanamthitta Dr Divya S Iyer handed over the certificates. Under the aegis of the NIFAA Kerala branch, Kerala cultural teams have also participated in Harmony, the International Youth and Cultural Festival held in Karnal. The Kerala team of NIFAA will conduct many more cultural exchange programs and social welfare in the coming years.
