Daman is famous for its beautiful beaches, Portuguese colonial architecture, churches, and the mesmerizing beauty of the twin towns of Nani-Daman and Moti-Daman. An idyllic natural retreat nestled in the Gulf of Khambhat, the Union Territory has several quaint churches and ancient forts that exude an old-world charm and are fine specimens of the Portuguese style of architecture.
NIFAA has been working in Daman since 2017 when a group of NIFAA members reached this beautiful U.T. under the “One India Ride” campaign with a message of peace, harmony, and national integration. After this, local youth led by Rahim Nasirkhan, a young artist and social activist. Under his command, NIFAA formally opened a branch in Daman, which started working immediately after its launch. In May 2018, the Daman branch extended a warm welcome to Sh. Amit Jhangra, a differently able member of NIFAA, reached the city under his Kashmir to Kanya Kumari Ride. NIFAA organized a function for the official launching of the Daman branch on 30 June 2018, and renowned film director and writer Karan Razdan and national chairman Pritpal Singh Pannu graced this occasion as guests of honor. On Independence Day of India, the NIFAA Daman branch organized a musical program on the beachside where young NIFAA artists performed singing and street play.
Members of NIFAA Daman took an oath to serve the nation and contribute to world peace and national integration on NIFAA’s foundation day. At the Ganesh Visarjan Festival, NIFAA volunteers started a collection of flowers and pooja material at the Ganesh Visarjan Spot. They stopped devotees from getting dumped in the Daman Ganga River. This initiative of NIFAA Daman to prevent water pollution and create awareness to keep the sea and the seashore clean went on for ten successive days. On the arrival of the winter season, the members of NIFAA Daman distributed clothes and wool to the beggars and needy homeless people residing on the town streets. The NIFAA Daman team attended the 549th Guru Nanak Jayanti at Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Vapi and was complimented by the Gurudwara Committee. The team also participated in the International Fraternity and Goodwill camp organized by the National Youth Project held at Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab, to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. NIFAA managed to a fundraising program titled “Back to Bachpan Fun Fest” and the funds raised were utilized for the welfare of the underprivileged children of tribal and rural areas. Seeing the progressive work of NIFAA Daman, the members were contacted by Daman’s pollution control department. They were assigned to conduct surprise raids and check violations of pollution norms. NIFAA members were honored as “Eco-Warriors” and they performed their duty exemplary. They seized banned plastic bags from the local market, and the department appreciated their honest work. NIFAA Daman’s artist group participated in a street festival organized by VIA in collaboration with Seva Bharti Charitable Trust. This festival was held to raise funds for the families of the martyred CRPF soldiers of the Pulwama Attack. On World Environment Day, NIFAA Daman organized tree plantations in different town spots. They also pledged to protect and plant trees as much as possible. Members also participated in the National Council meeting in Karnal and interacted with children of the CARE class run in slum areas. They also participated in the “Guldasta” program. The NIFAA Daman team
regularly organizes various programs for the welfare of society. The group organized free career counselling seminars for aspiring students of 10th board classes. NIFAA guided around 300 students to a better future. Members of the NIFAA Daman team uniquely celebrated Independence and Rakshbandhan Day. All the girls members of NIFAA Daman reached out to police personnel and appreciated their outstanding work in maintaining law and order by tying Rakhis on their wrists.
NIFAA Daman celebrated the organization's foundation day by distributing clothes to needy children on the street and spreading joy on their faces. Similarly, NIFAA Members are used to celebrating their birthdays and other happiest moments in orphans or nursing homes. NIFAA Daman is equally concerned with the empowerment and welfare of women. The state team organized a free self- defence workshop on “International Women’s Day.” The team under the guidance of Tejal Patel, state coordinator, is also active on social media networks and organizes various online competitions, especially during the Corona lockdown period many such events were organized. Members participated in relief activities during those tough times and organized blood donation camps under the Samvedna campaign to reduce blood shortages during the coronavirus crisis.
