(State Coordinator)

Assam is known for Assam tea and silk and is the first site for oil drilling in Asia. Assam is home to the one-horned Indian rhinoceros, the wild water buffalo, the pygmy hog, the tiger, and various species of Asiatic birds. It provides one of the last wild habitats for the Asian elephant. It’s a gateway to many other places in the North East and a brimming tourist hub. Assam is one of the most picturesque states in northeast India.
NIFAA started its association with Assam in 2005 when a cultural group, “Sutradhar” from the Nagaon district of Assam, came to Karnal to participate in a seven-day National Integration Camp organized by NIFAA. Their mesmerizing cultural performances and dance dramas based on social issues touched everyone in the audience. This was the beginning of new relations with this young team of Assam, headed by a versatile young artist and youth leader, Gourab Hazarika. Later, Sh. Gourab Hazarika was appointed state president of the organization and was given responsibility to spread the vision and message of NIFAA in Assam. Under his leadership and guidance, NIFAA opened branches in various districts of Assam and organized various activities. The NIFAA Assam team, in collaboration with Sutradhar Group, organized the “Nrityalingan”a two-day dance festival at the Nagaon Auditorium. The cultural section of Sutradhar, under the coordination of NIFAA Assam, crossed the country’s borders and visited Mauritius two times to give performances of rich Assam and Indian cultural heritage. Team Assam even performed in the gracious presence of H.E., The Honourable President of Mauritius, Sir Anerood Jugnauth. State President of NIFAA Assam, Sh. Gourab Hazarika also got an opportunity to conduct a dance workshop for special children on this small island. The cultural group of NIFAA Assam and Sutradhar performed a dance drama based on the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in tributary functions held in Delhi and Karnal. When NIFAA organized the “Gita Sandesh Yatra” across the country, the Assam team agreed to take the great message of the Bhagavad Gita to every state of northeast India. They travelled by road to all eight northeast states, organized seminars, and performed dance dramas based on the great teachings of Bhagwad Gita. Different district teams of NIFAA Assam are regular participants in all national-level festivals organized by NIFAA and other associate organizations. The state team and other district branches of NIFAA also initiated a tree plantation drive. Presently NIFAA Sh. Partha Pratim Hazarika is working as NIFAA Assam state President.
